How to Gain Weight Fast is Only a 2-Step Process

If you really want to know how to gain weight fast, then there are really only two steps you need to know and worry about:

  1. do a proper workout – this means the right combination of lifting heavy for strength, fast for speed, and volume for size
  2. eat enough calories – primarily from protein

If you want to learn how to gain weight fast, there is a ton of information on the internet you can go to.  But let’s be honest for minute – most of the info on how to gain weight fast out there simply just sucks, doesn’t work, or worse yet…are complete lies.

Listen, we all know that workouts are vitally important to anybody interested in how to gain weight fast.  That much is just a given.

But, it honestly doesn’t matter what workout you do (even if it’s an awesome one like Body Armor), if you’re not eating enough, then you’re never going to put any size on.  It’s just simple mathematics.

(You remember the whole how to gain weight fast “calories in” vs “calories out” equation, right?  If you’re not taking in more calories than you’re burning up, you simply will never get any bigger.)

But just eating everything in sight isn’t the right way to go about it – you have to be smart…

Why Protein Should Be a Priority If You Want to Know How to Gain Weight Fast

So you know that you need to be eating more, right?  That’s all well, and good, but do you know what you should be eating?

After all, you are interested in how to gain weight fast, but we both know that just gaining ‘weight’ isn’t really what you’re after.  What you want to really do is gain muscle.  I mean, anybody could pound down a Bic-Mac value meal 3x per day and put on weight…that’s easy.  What you want to do is put on muscle.

And that’s where protein comes in.

You may have heard protein called the ‘building blocks of muscle’.  (Lemme guess – memories of high school health class are flooding back, right?  lol)  Well, it’s true – protein is essentially the ‘building blocks of muscle’.

This is because of what comprises is.

You see, when your body breaks down protein during digestion, it breaks protein down into a more simple form called ‘amino acids’.  These amino acids are basically what make up protein.  But that’s not all they make up – besides water, amino acids are the most common substance in muscle.

So what really happens is that you eat protein, your body breaks it down into amino acids, then turns right around and uses those amino acids to build muscle.  In a way, you could almost say that eating protein is like eating muscle directly.

How to Gain Weight Fast Question – How *Much* Protein?

There is a lot of speculation on just how much protein you really need if you’re after how to gain weight fast.  Some of the recommendations out there (especially from the hardcore bodybuilding world) are just crazy!  I’ve seen some articles recommending as much as 400-500 grams of protein each day!

You just simply don’t need that much.  Hell, your digestive system would wear out just trying to make use of that much protein.

A good rule of thumb of how to gain weight fast is to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of desired bodyweight (when you’re in shape) each day.

So if you’re looking to weigh 200 pounds in shape, you’d eat 200 grams of protein each day.  Simple, huh?

You can vary the recommendation a little, going as little as .75 grams per pound of desired bodyweight, and as high as 1.25 grams.  This fluctuation would more or less depend on your overall activity level, metabolism, and a few other things.

But when in doubt, just stick with the how to gain weight fast “1 gram per pound of desired bodyweight” rule.
